Το κοστος της μελισσοκομίας.

Μια ερώτηση που μου εχουν κανει μια δυο φορες εδω μέσα, αλλα ποτε δεν απάντησα με ακρίβεια, ειναι το ποσο θα κόστιζε να ξεκινήσει καποιος μελίσσια. Tελευταίος με ρώτησε ο Αποστόλης.

Η απάντηση δεν ειναι συγκεκριμένη και ειναι δυσκολη. Νομιζω οτι εχει δυο σκέλη.

Θες να γίνεις επαγγελματίας? Θελει πολλα χρήματα αλλα δεν ξέρω ποσα. Κυρίως θελει το χρονο σου.
Θες να το κανεις ερασιτεχνικά? Θελει αρκετα περισσότερα χρήματα απ οσα θα σου δωσει αυτο.

Θα κάνω σε αυτο το post μια καπως επιφανειακη και γενική προσέγγιση στο θεμα χρηματα, που ελπιζω όμως θα δημιουργισει μια γενικη εικόνα.

Θα κάνω και μια σείρα απο άλλα posts, που θα λειτουργίσουν ως ημερολόγιο για ενα νέο, σταθερο μελισσοκομιο που θελω να φτιάξω απο το μηδέν, καπου στη Φωκίδα και ελπιζω οτι θα μπορουν κι αυτα με τη σειρα τους, να κατατοπίσουν καπως τους εντελως άσχετους.

Στο οικονομικο λοιπόν. Πρωτα απ όλα βαζω σαν απόλυτα αναγκαίο κόστος, την παρακολουθηση κάποιου σχετικου σεμιναρίου. Νομίζω οτι τα ιδανικα γίνονται εδώ: ΙΝΣΤΙΤΟΥΤΟ ΓΕΩΠΟΝΙΚΩΝ ΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΩΝ, Γεωργικό Σχολείο 210 8011146, κτήμα Συγγρού, Αθήνα. Τα παρακολουθησα το 2003 και δεν μπορω να θυμηθώ το κόστος (νομιζω οτι ηταν κατι γυρω στα 100 ευρώ και οτι αν δεν τα ειχα κανει θα ξεκινούσα εντελώς, μα εντελώς λάθος)

Ενα άλλο κόστος που θα έβαζα μέσα ειναι η συνδρομή στη μελισσοκομικη επιθεώρηση, ενα κλαδικό περιοδικό το οποίο σε κρατά ενημερο για όλα τα σχετικά θέματα και κοστίζει νομίζω γύρω στα 25 euro το χρόνο. Mελισσοκομική ΕπιθεώρησηΤ.Θ. 15,57 500 Επανομή Τηλ.: 23920/91575 e-mail: melpress @ otenet . gr

Στα απολύτως πρακτικά και αναγκαία. Μια κυψέλη πλήρως εξοπλισμένη (δυο πατώματα, καπάκι, 20 πλαίσια και πόρτα) κοστίζει γύρω στα 40 ευρώ. Η κυψέλη αυτή θα πρέπει να βαφτει και θα πρεπει να συμπληρωθεί απο καποιους μεταλλικους συνδετήρες που την κρατουν συναρμολογημένη κατα τις μεταφορές της και κοστίζουν ανάλογα με την ποιότητα τους γύρω στο 1 με 2 ευρώ (? εχω πολύ καιρο να αγοράσω)

Υπολογίζω μια κενή, διπατη κυψελη να φτανει τα 50 ευρώ τελειωμένη (μαζι με τα φυλλα κεριου στα πλάισια) Τα σμηνη δεν πρεπει να εχουν συγκεκριμένη τιμή. Αν δεν με απατα η μνημη μου εγώ ειχα αγορασει τα 3 πρώτα πριν απο 4 χρόνια περίπου 150 ευρω και μου εδωσαν κι αλλο ενα τζαμπα, οχι γιατι ειχαν προσφορες 🙂 αλλα γιατι γνωρίζαμε το μελισσοκόμο. Η τιμη ισως φανει λίγο μεγάλη αλλα δεν μου έδωσε μόνο τα εντομα, αλλα και τα ήδη χτισμένα πλαίσια που περιειχαν και μέλια γυρη κλπ. Απο τότε δεν ξαναγόρασα και με μικρη φροντιδα αυτη τη στιγμη έχω 20 και αν όλα πανε καλα την ανοιξη αρκετα περισσότερα.

Για να εργαστεις στο μελίσσι θέλεις το λιγότερο μια μελισσοκομική μάσκα (αναλογα την αντοχη σου σε τσιμπήματα μπορει να θες κι ολοκληρη στολή.) Η φτηνότερη κανει 7 ευρω. Χρειάζεται είσης ενα ξέστρο, το εργαλείο με το οποίο κανεις όλες τις εργασίες κατα την επιθεώρηση και κοστιζει γυρω στα 6- 7 ευρω και ενα κάπνιστρο για να κρατας τα εντομα σου ήρεμα που κοστίζει γυρω στα 15 ευρώ. Αν λοιπόν θέλεις να ξεκινήσεις με 4 κυψέλες θες κατι της ταξεως των 500 ευρω για ξεκίνημα.

Σταδιακά και όσο πανε καλα τα πραγματα το κόστος θα αυξάνει γιατι θα πρεπει να παρεις κι άλλες κυψέλες, να προμηθευτείς εργαλεία εξαγωγής του μελιου και άλλες κυψέλες, να κανεις αρκετα ταξιδακια και να αγορασεις κι άλλες κυψέλες και φυσικα να αγοραζεις κι άλλες κυψέλες…

Νομιζω οτι η μόνη απόσβεση που μπορει να κανει ενας ερασιτέχνης ειναι η ηθικη ικανοποίηση που αποκτα απο τη μελισσοκομία και αξιζει πλήρως τα λεφτα που εχεις δαπανήσει για αυτη 🙂

Ιn English: The cost of beekeepingA question several people has asked me in this blog, but which I have never answered with any kind of precision, is how much it costs to start beekeeping. Recently, Apostolos asked me this. The answer is not specific and is rather difficult. I believe it has two versions.

Do you want to keep bees commercially?

This requires a lot of money, but I’m not sure how much. Mostly it requires your time.

Do you want to be an amateur beekeeper?

This requires quite a bit more money than you will ever earn from it.

In this post I will address the subject of money in a somewhat superficial and general way, which, however, I hope will give you a general picture of the costs involved.

I am going to post another series of posts which are going to serve as a kind of diary for a new, permanent bee colony that I want to create from scratch in Fokida, and I hope, with this series of posts, to somewhat inform those who are new to the subject.

Regarding the economics of beekeeping.

First of all, I would say it is absolutely essential to enroll in some kind of beekeeping course or seminar. I believe the ideal course is offered by the Institute of Geoponic Sciences at the School of Agriculture at the Syngrou Estate in Athens (Tel: 210-801-1146). I took this course in 2003, and I can’t remember the cost (I think it was around €100 – and that if I hadn’t taken it I would have gotten off to a completely wrong start.)

Another cost I would add to the total is for a subscription to Melisokomiki Epitheorisi (Beekeeping Oversight), a classic journal which keeps one informed on all issues related to beekeeping and which costs around €25 per year. Regarding absolutely practical and essential costs, a fully-equipped beehive (two floors, lid, 20 frames and door) costs around €40. This hive needs to be painted and should be supplemented with two metal fasteners whose role is to keep the hive intact during transport and which cost between 1 and 2 euro, depending on their quality (it’s been a while since I last bought some).

I figure that an empty, two-floor beehive will cost you about €50 fully equipped (including the sheets of wax in the frames). Swarms of bees don’t have any particular set price. If my memory doesn’t betray me, I had bought my first three swarms about four years ago for something like €150, and the people who sold them to me threw in another one for free, not because there was some kind of special sale but because we knew the beekeeper. The price might seem a little steep, but they didn’t just give me the insects but the frames with some honey and pollen, etc.. From that point on, I haven’t had to buy bees again. With a little bit of care I now have 20 hives, and if everything goes well, in the Spring I hope to have quite a few more.

To work at beekeeping, one needs at least a beekeeping mask (depending on your tolerance to bee stings, you might want the whole suit). The cheapest costs around €7.

You will also need a “hive too”, the tool you use during all the jobs involved in checking the hives – which costs between €6 – €7, and a smoker to keep your bees calm – which costs around €15. If you want to start with 4 hives, you would probably need to spend in the neighborhood of €500 to begin beekeeping.

Little by little, if everything goes well, the cost will slowly increase, since you will need to get additional hives and buy tools for extracting honey. Then you will need more hives; you’ll be taking plenty of little trips; you’ll need more hives and, of course, more hives.I believe that the only return an amateur beekeeper can expect to get from his or her hobby is the satisfaction that comes from beekeeping itself – and this is well worth the money you will have spent
