Τριαντάφυλλα και παράξενες παγίδες

Ο εφευρετικός μελισσοκόμος, μη μπορώντας να το βγάλει σκέφτηκε να κάνει μια παρεμβολή στην είσοδο. Με αυτό το περίεργο κατασκεύασμα οι μέλισσες πρέπει να περνούν μέσα απο την κυψέλη για να μπαινοβγαίνουν. Η πλαστική σωλήνα τις οδηγεί κατευθείαν εκει. Υποθέτω θα έχει βάλει πλαίσια και καποια τροφοδοσία και περιμένει να πεισθεί και η μάνα να περάσει στη νέα κατοικία και να γεννήσει εκεί.

Μετά, θα πάρει την κυψέλη με το νούμερο 55 και θα αφήσει πίσω την παλια φωλια. Δεν ξέρω αν θα πιάσει αλλα πιστεύω με υπομονή και δουλειά στο τέλος θα στεφθεί με επιτυχία. Μαθαίνω βέβαια οτι και πέρσι συνέβαινε  το ίδιο σκηνικό. Οπότε η δεν τα κατάφερε και ξαναπροσπαθεί η είναι δεύτερο. τι να πώ. Θα μάθω και θα επανέλθω για την έκβαση. (βλέπεις είχα να πάω ενάμιση χρόνο και έχω χάσει επεισόδια.)

Το πιο περίεργο που είχα δει μέχρι τώρα ήταν μέλισσες σε γεράνι. Τώρα ήρθε να προστεθεί κι αυτό. Βέβαια τα συγκεκριμένα τριαντάφυλλα για κάποιο λόγο δεν είναι σαν τα κλασικά εμπορικά. Είναι πιο ανοιχτά και αφήνουν να φαίνονται οι στήμονες. Αλλα και πάλι. Μέλισσα σε τριαντάφυλλο δεν είχα ξαναδεί. Κάνοντας μια γρήγορη έρευνα, είδα στο kynigos.net.gr οτι κάποιες τριανταφυλλιές είναι προσβάσιμες στις μέλισσες Rosa damascena Mill, Rosa francofurtana var. Agatha Th. και Rosa centifolia L. Όσο μεγαλώνεις μαθαίνεις. Είδα κι άλλα ωραία, θα τα γράψω τις επόμενες μέρες.

So, with the heatwave, here we are in the village.

I thought I’d escape the heat a bit and went to Krokyleio for the weekend. It’s hard to get away from the bees after all (not that I wanted to). As soon as I parked to enter the house, the first thing I saw in the abandoned neighboring house was this:

I asked what it was, and they told me it was a traditional air conditioner… After some thought, you could figure out what was going on, but a bit of fact-checking helped. In the abandoned building, there’s a beehive in the middle of a stone chimney, with the bees coming and going through a hole in the wall.

The inventive beekeeper, unable to remove the hive, came up with the idea to intervene at the entrance. With this strange contraption, the bees have to pass through the hive to come and go. The plastic tube directs them straight there. I assume he’s placed frames and some food inside, waiting for the queen to be convinced to move into the new hive and start laying eggs there.

Then, he’ll take the hive marked number 55 and leave the old nest behind. I don’t know if it will work, but I believe with patience and effort, it will eventually succeed. Apparently, the same thing happened last year. So either he didn’t manage to do it and is trying again, or this is a second attempt. Who knows? I’ll find out and update you on the outcome (you see, I hadn’t visited in a year and a half and missed some episodes).

What impressed me the most was that while I was taking photos, behind me, in the rosebush, I heard that familiar buzzing sound. I looked, and sure enough, there were bees. bee on a rosebush

The strangest thing I’d seen until now was bees on a geranium. Now, this is added to the list. However, these particular roses, for some reason, are not like the classic commercial ones. They are more open and allow the stamens to show. Still, I had never seen a bee on a rose before. After doing a quick search, I saw on kynigos.net.gr that some rose varieties are accessible to bees, like Rosa damascena Mill, Rosa francofurtana var. Agatha Th., and Rosa centifolia L. You learn something new every day. I saw other interesting things, too, and I’ll write about them in the coming days.
